Based on the lives of real people, The River Remembers is a tender and powerful account of the lives of three women in 1830’s Michigan Territory. The prologue to this deeply touching novel is one of the most beautiful pieces of writing I’ve read. Ulleseit continues in that same vein throughout the book, meticulously weaving research and history into her fiction. The women’s lives intertwine as they courageously navigate the new frontier and try to build good lives for their children. Through it all, the river carries their challenges, their memories, and their tears. The women stand strong, resilient as the river. Like her other books, Linda Ulleseit writes with humility and grace, and a true storyteller’s heart. The River Remembers is a thing of beauty and passion, a book you won’t want to miss.
